An independent security practice in Blue Ridge

High Ground Risk Advisory exists for one reason: to help people prevent incidents instead of reacting to them. We plan before anyone has to worry.

Meet the founder

William Watkins lives and works in Blue Ridge and built High Ground Risk Advisory around a simple conviction: the safest places are the ones that planned ahead. Many incidents follow warning signs that someone could have noticed and planned for. The work is finding those signs early and making the fix easy to carry out.

He is completing a Bachelor of Science in Political Science in the Honors Program at the University of North Georgia, with a focus on international relations: how states and institutions identify threats, weigh risks, and prepare responses.

Those same principles apply to a church, a storefront, or a county building. A threat assessment for a region and a walkthrough of a rear parking lot ask the same questions: what could go wrong, how likely is it, how bad would it be, and what is the simplest thing that prevents it.

His practical experience is local. He spent nearly three years managing a busy coffee shop in downtown Blue Ridge, responsible for staff, opening and closing, and cash. He also founded, ran, and sold a local service business. He knows how small organizations actually operate, which is why every plan he writes is built to fit the people who have to follow it.

How we work

Four commitments shape every engagement.

Independent

We sell no equipment and accept no referral fees. When we recommend a camera, a lock, or a guard company, it is because your site needs it.

Plain language

Every report opens with a one-page summary an owner or pastor can act on without a security background.

Confidential

A security report is a map of weaknesses. We encrypt it, share it only with the people you name, and delete site photos after delivery.

Grounded in recognized frameworks

Our methods follow published ASIS International standards and federal CISA guidance, so the work stands up to insurers, boards, and agencies.

Prevention first, always

The goal of every engagement is the same: reduce the chance that anything goes wrong, and make sure people know what to do if it does. That means fixing the dark doorway before the break-in, writing the evacuation route before the fire alarm, and practicing the plan before it is needed.

We do not sell fear. Most findings are ordinary and most fixes are inexpensive. The value is in seeing them all at once and doing them in the right order.

Where we work

We are based in Blue Ridge and work across Fannin, Gilmer, Union, and Pickens counties, in towns such as McCaysville, Morganton, Ellijay, Blairsville, and Jasper. We travel anywhere in North Georgia, and statewide for schools and public agencies.
